Did You Know that some Sharks lay Eggs….
.….enclosed in protective cases, which may come in many shapes and sizes?
.….and are considered oviparous, meaning they lay eggs externally? Approximately, 30 percent of shark species are oviparous.
.….and the mother sharks do not guard their eggs? They give birth and then leave them between rocks or in seaweed where they can later hatch. At first, they are soft and flexible and then harden as they come in contact with seawater. Empty shark cases, known as a mermaid’s purse, sometimes wash up on beaches.
